Silver blinked and also tilted his head for a moment. “Huh? Oh, hmm, maybe you’re right. I think the fact that I travel between two different times makes me think that I need two calendars for some reason. Ah well, I’ll cross that bridge and get it all sorted eventually.”

"And if you wanna know, I use the Chaos Emeralds. Uh, the ones from my time and only two of them! Not like I know where the rest are anyway.

Tapping at his chin, he took a second to think. If Silver had to be frank, Chaos Emerald-induced time travel still found ways to confuse and sometimes unnerve him. However, with friends he knew that lived in this ‘present time’, he’d begun to use this power to travel back more and more, so naturally he grew used to it and it’s occasional… complications.

Didn’t mean it still didn’t hurt his brain to try and explain the whole phenomenon to someone though.

"Yeah, it kinda does work the same way actually! I have to really focus with the Chaos Energy on where and when exactly I’m going, though it’s a little easier to travel forward to my time than back since it’s, you know, my original time and I know it better in a physical sense than the past. But it’s worked for me and gotten me where I want to go! … For the most part.

Shadow had had experience with time travel to a small degree. Never had he gone back or forth between time, but Chaos Control was capable of slowing it down. He’d never thought as far as to use it as a way of passing through timelines, but he supposed it could be possible, and Silver’s explanation proved as much. Still, the nervous way that the hedgehog spoke to him about it indicated he wasn’t very experienced with it — or at least, to the point that he had mastered it. Not to mention his ears were sensitive to pick up a little muttering to himself that he was sure Silver didn’t want him to hear. Disregarding any tact, he decided to bring it up.

"For the most part? I’m assuming there have been complications before?"

It would be reasonable enough. Silver didn’t know exactly where he was going, after all. Even with all the Chaos Emeralds in the world, if one didn’t know how to wield them properly it wasn’t going to achieve a desired effect.

Silver kept a passive look on his face, and rubbed the back of his long quills. Oh, did he say that out loud? Jumping through time as much as he did, it was still a bit embarrassing, he guessed, to admit his occasional problems with it; he knew how to do cross the opposing Chaos energies correctly to make a tear in time, but things still sometimes got a bit off-kilter no matter what he did! Funny stuff just happens when you’re opening rifts in the fabric of time and space.

"Ah… well, yeah. There have been a few problems once or twice, but nothing really serious or anything! It’s just, you know, I may not teleport to the exact spot that I wanted to, or maybe I teleport back home a couple hours or a day earlier or later than I intended to be. Little stuff like that, nothing Zone-breaking.”

And nothing to cause him physical injury, permanent mental damage, or unholy mutation. That was also very important.

"Oh, well, I only ever time travel between my time 200 years in the future and the, er, ‘present time’. So I do go back, but around 200 years back; way before I’m born with no chance of bumping into another me then. And when I go back (forwards?) to my original time, I try to skip ahead the same amount of hours that I spent in the past so I don’t teleport to the same moment that I was first teleporting to the past or any time before then! Therefore never accidentally meeting myself!”

Looking proud with his confident answer, Silver still couldn’t help an uncertain-sounding cough.

"Um. I guess when you put it that way… a calendar or two will at least keep the amount of days and dates straight, anyway?"

Shadow tilted his head to the side.

"Unless they have a different date system in the future, one calendar should suffice."

Time travel was indeed confusing. But interesting — and Shadow couldn’t help but be curious.

"How exactly do you time travel, and how do you pick times? When I teleport using Chaos Control, I need to be aware of exactly where I’m going if I don’t want to suffer too much strain. Does time work the same way?”

Silver blinked and also tilted his head for a moment. “Huh? Oh, hmm, maybe you’re right. I think the fact that I travel between two different times makes me think that I need two calendars for some reason. Ah well, I’ll cross that bridge and get it all sorted eventually.”

"Maybe your New Year’s resolution is to get a calendar."

"Ehehe… yeah, maybe a calendar would help keep my sense of time a little bit clearer, if anything. My New Year’s resolution should probably be to actually keep written track of my time traveling overall, really. Never seem to get around to doing that…

Though I’d probably have to get more than one calendar. And maybe a planner. Or a notebook or something. When did time travel suddenly get this complicated?

"Do you always keep going forward, or do you sometimes go back? And if the case is the latter, how do you avoid meeting yourself?

"If you have complications like that to consider, is a calendar really complex enough to keep it straight for you?"

"Oh, well, I only ever time travel between my time 200 years in the future and the, er, ‘present time’. "Wow… is it really the end of the year already?”

"I could have sworn that December just started! I mean, I know I shift between timelines a lot, but jeez."
